Dhwani academy of percussion music, another creation of Abhijit Banerjee - intends to bring into focus the rhythmical aspect of music while aspiring to work towards the exploration and enrichment of percussion music in its various manifestations.
India has a rich heritage and tradition of its percussion music. India has got one of the most developed percussion instrument. The variety of percussion instruments and the richness of rhythm that India possesses is one of the most precious gift that a musician can boast of.
The percussion academy Dhwani is a brainchild of Abhijit Banerjee, one of the top notch Indian Classical muscians intends to propagate our percussion all over the world through this institution. Dhwani also plan to expose percussion from other parts of the world to Indians by performances, seminar etc. Dhwani has its main activities in Kolkata and has already established a branch in Los Angles. Classes of Tabla Pakhwaj, south Indian percussion and music appreciations are regularly taught here. Dhwani academy in Calcutta has already conducted a seminar with noted Pakhwaj player Pt. Bhwani Shankar and Dhwani Los Angles is going to perform a concert and seminar on TAAL in April 2005.
Dhwani Academy in Kolkata has already produced students who has won the national award and performed important music festivals in India. With the students Abhijit has created a percussion ensemble which has performed many concerts in Kolkata and has made its mark among the young population and the connoisseurs as well.
About Dhwani - India
Dhwani Academy of Percussion Music is operating in India since last five years. The brain child of Abhijit Banerjee, took some 5 years to take a reasonably good shape. It has to go through many hurdles as usual for first few years.
Now the academy has a good number of dedicated serious students in Tabla, and South Indian percussion and Rhythm classes.
Besides doing our regular teaching activities, Dhwani has been successful in continuing its regular classes in the Blind Boys Academy for last three years and chose the best of them to perform in our concerts that were held in 10 th February,2007 which brought applause from the media and music lovers.
Apart from that, Dhwani is trying organize regular workshops with reputed personalities from Indian Music. Dhwani India 's regular activities also include doing concerts and seminars and giving scholarships to blind boys and giving award to veteran artistes specially percussionists who had contributions to their field but are unable to move or participate any more in musical activities.
Dhwani's research wing is now engaged in project “traditions of tabla playing in North India ”.
About Dhwani - USA
Dhwani Academy USA , a non-profit 501.c 3 corporation incorporated in California , is founded with an aim of propagating Indian Music with a special emphasis on percussion and rhythms of India . Dhwani now has more than 40 regular students in different centers that it operates and its main office is situated in Anaheim , California .
Dhwani has six major chapters in the Los Angeles , San Diego and Valley area. Dhwani operates regular classes in these places (please consult class schedule). Our instructor Jyoti prakash, (www.jyotiprakas.com) a senior disciple of Abhijit Banerjee, takes care of the students through out the year. The principal Abhijit Banerjee himself spends almost 4-5 months in California and also spends time and gives attention to each and every student personally.

Dhwani also conducts seminars and workshops on Tabla, Pakhwaj,South Indian Music and Tala System, Folk percussions of India and South East Asia at present and organizes limited concerts.
Dhwani also manages Abhijit Banerjee's concert Schedule and TARANG partially for the US .
Dhwani is starting from this year to send students to India for performances in Dhwani's Indian concerts which is a major event in Kolkata. Dhwani also sponsors two blind students in India and is currently teaching TABLA to two mentally retarded children
